John the Elder (Presbyter)
- John the Elder (Presbyter)
(? first century)
Devotional Writer.
John the Elder was named by eusebius of caesarea as the author of the New Testament Book of Revelation. This was followed by Dionysius of Alexandria who pointed to the existence of two Johannine tombs in Ephesus, arguing that one belonged to john The Apostle and the other to John the Elder. papias referred to a John the Elder, and the author of the Second and Third Epistles of John describes himself as an elder. None of this evidence is conclusive proof of John’s existence, since the title ‘Elder’ may well have been used of the apostle.
